My sincere condolences to Marie and family. Murray was always good for a laugh and I always enjoys times when I was in his company. So well liked by all and we are all so lucky to have known such a greay guy as Murray.

I first met Murray about 30 years ago when I started at the (what was then) Whitby Jail. He was imposing, at first…but kind. Back then when you were new, nobody really spoke to you, but Murray did. We had a shared love of hunting and swapped stories and because of him, I was accepted fairly quickly by the others.

I remember Murray being very involved in organizing staff social events, for example the Father/Son fishing day at the camp. To me, he liked working at the Jail and he liked the people. I recall seeing him get a tad angry at times, but I never saw him in a bad mood. I heard some of the best stories about Murray from things that happened before my time; none of which shall be mentioned here. The stories were epic….

My favourite memory of Murray was when I mistakenly called him “Mr. Thomas”, he nearly hit the roof! Those who worked at the Jail will know what I mean and will laugh too, if they read this.

The last time I saw Murray was when I stopped at Fishtail Lake camp for a visit a few years ago and gosh, did we walk down memory lane over a few. He loved that camp.

It’s sad to see one of the good guys go; but such is life.

My heartfelt condolences to his family and those that loved him.
