Obituary

CARR, Joan Emily Marie

September 7, 1944 – July 5, 2020

Peacefully, in her 76th year, after a brief but courageous battle with cancer. Beloved wife of Bert for 53 years. Devoted and cherished mother of Alison (Ken) and Carolyn (Paul). Proud and adored Gramma to Emily, Carson, Nathan and Michael. Joan will be forever missed by brother Don (Sharon), “The Girls”, her extended family, her wonderful friends and the many people whose lives she touched with her humour, wisdom and love.

In keeping with Joan’s wishes, there will be no funeral service, and in lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the charity of your choice. “Be the things you loved most about the people who are gone”

My sincere condolences to Bert, Alison, Carolyn and their families. Joan was Mother to many of us at work. She always cared and showed deep concern with whatever we were dealing with. Most of all we had a lot of laughs and she could always brighten your day. I will always remember our movie dates and Joan would cover my eyes if a scene was inappropriate. So many good memories to hold on to. My thoughts and prayers are with you all . SAM Walter Meerstra

We have lost a true friend, the intrepid leader of so many of our adventures, dinners, lunches and brunches. We will all miss her humour, her sparkling personality and the ability to make friends with anyone she meets. The memories shared over the many years of friendship, love and sisterhood will carry us through. Mel and I send our love and deepest condolences to the family of someone who has so generously allowed us to join that family. The end came far too fast and unexpected for all of us, as I know it came for her. We, all of us, will have to hold on to our wonderful memories of time spent with Joan to help us get through our grief.

I have so many wonderful memories of my friend and co-worker Joan. I will always cherish the fun times we had working and socializing together over many years. Joan had a way of bringing everyone together on numerous occasions, always the fabulous hostess. We shared so many laughs together during our working years. Her outgoing personality gave her the ability to make instant friendships, even when working the front counter at the Town of Whitby, where complete strangers would pour out their hearts to her. Joan, you were loved by many and will be forever missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing you. Rest in Peace my friend. Linda, or as you always referred to me "Roberts".
