Obituary

SANDERS, JEAN MARY

September 10th, 1943 – August 31st, 2020

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Jean Sanders after a courageous battle with cancer. She passed away peacefully at home surrounded by the beauty of her backyard with family and friends by her side. Predeceased by her loving husband and soulmate of 50 years, Bill Sanders. Lorna (Joe) Ward will terribly miss her only sister and best friend. Loving brother to Jim (Fiona & Ann) Harris, sister-in-law to Ruthie (Laurie), Joyce (Bob), Wendy (John), and Sharon. Lovingly remembered as a special aunt by many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews in both England and Canada. Jean will also be greatly missed by her caring neighbours and long-time friends. Our heartfelt thanks to the nurses in oncology at SGH who provided such loving care and support to Jean over the years. A special thank you to nurse Singh who showed such compassion and kindness for Jean in her last days.

Jean was one in a million and will be forever remembered for her elegance, kind heart and warm smile. A truly classy lady!

A celebration of life will be announced at a later date. Memorial donations can be made to Canadian Blood Services or Toronto Humane Society.

I first met Jean when I started at CIGNA in late 1985. She was a generous, kind, fun loving woman. We had some wonderful times at social events and company functions. Fond memories. The world is a lesser place without her.

I met Jean September 1st, 1971 my first day at work at INA, we were both in the lunchroom, I needed a dime to buy a coke borrowed one from her. The next day I went to pay her back and she would not take the dime I knew then what a very generous woman she was. During those years we worked together for 23 years I left INA (CIGNA) and we kept in touch. Unfortunately for me we did not see enough of each other but when we did get together we laughed and talked of old times. Jean was a classy lady in every sense of the word, generous , kind and gentle . She will be remembered by many and missed very much. She is now with the love of her life Bill.
Rest in peace Jean

I met Jean just after I started working at CIGNA in 1985. We became good friends quickly along with Jane and Sandy. I fondly remember so many of the good times and laughs we had together! You were always so kind, thoughtful and giving - beautiful inside and out! Rest in peace dear Jean.

Jean, you were the first person to come over to talk to me when I started work at Cigna in 1985, making me feel welcome. We have been friends ever since. We have shared so many fun times, dinners, lunches, day trips, movies. I will miss you so much. I know you are in a better place and your suffering is over. I hope to see you again one day in the next life. Rest In Peace my friend.

Jean is one of the kindest, most caring and thoughtful people I've had the privilege to know and call a true friend. I've known Jean for 48 years and I will miss her profoundly. You'll be missed by your many friends Jean. Rest in peace dear friend.
